Motorcycle Repair: 1973 honda cb350g carbs, vent holes, carburetor issues

Question
Hello. Ive got a honda 73 cb350g with some carburetor issues that I cant
seem to shake. First she lost power to one carb, wasnt firing. Instead of just
fixing the one i decided to get a crab kit and clean them both. I replaced
main jets (went up to 115) and valve sets. When I put them back on, the
engine fired up great. The only thing was one o them leak gas from the drain
tube. I have tried adjusting float, nothing. Either it leaks or it doesnt vacuum
in the gas. With this problem she runs ok (80%). At about 6000 rpm the
engine kinda governs. What do you think? I have spoke to some 73 diehards
and they say this is typical for this year but to no resolve. thank you much.

Answer
Nathan,

-some of these carbs have small o-rings
around the float valve seat, have you
checked to make sure the valve seat
is not leaking where it goes into the
carb body?

-some carb kits are not great, original
parts are better. Make sure your
fuel petcock valve is allowing lots of fuel to
both carbs

-Have you tried switching floats if possible
to see if it is a faulty float?

-it is also important to have the small
vent holes on the carb clean. The float
bowl needs an air vent to allow the fuel
in without overflowing.

-check any small holes inside and outside the carb.
They are very tiny and may take some work
with carb cleaner to get them really clean.

-the float level is set at about 25mm,
this is the height or distance of the float bottom
from the carb body when the float needle
is just closed.

-if you put a bigger main jet in for no reason
it may be causing the high speed bogging.

-also your ignition timing needs to be spot on to get
good carburetor performance.
