Motorcycle Repair: Suzukie Boulevard C50, suzukie, shift fork

Question
I only have neutral and 2nd gear.  I don't have the other 3 gears.  How can I troubleshoot to find out what the problem is?

check your shift lever in case it is hitting
on something. Then check your shifter
linkage, usually in the clutch case.
You should be able to see if the linkage
is broken or not. It should turn the shift drum
when you move your shift pedal. It helps to
turn the back wheel so it shifts easier.
If it seems to turn the drum back and forth okay
and still no gears, it may be something internal
like a broken shift fork or gears.
