Motorcycle Repair: clutch, honda vt750, clutch plates

Question
i have a 1983 honda vt750 shadow, the clutch was slipping then finally it wouldn't go anywhere.now when i pull in the clutch ,it's very hard to pull in and it pushes the side cover out . it looks like the clutch cover is breathing when pulled  in and out.do i need a clutch and how hard is it to do?

Answer
Hi Brian, It sounds like you have some clutch plates and steels welded themselves together. Its not a real hard job, Once you get inside you will see what it entails. However, if you take the clutches apart and see any "blueing" on the steel plates, replace them all right away, It'll save you some headaches in the furure..On a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being novice work and 10 being advanced expert level, I would put this job at about a 2 given you have a fair concept of tools and what your looking at once you get inside the cover..

Hoep this helps!
