Saab Repair: Reverse Lights Stay On, range switch, shift indicator

Question
QUESTION: On my 1999 Saab 9-3, the reverse lights and front cornering lights remain on all the time now. Recently, the battery died from using an accessory and I jumped it, then Check Engine light was on for a few miles. Just mentioning, not sure if it could be related. Thanks a lot.

ANSWER: Stick shift or automatic transmission?

QUESTION: It is an automatic, thanks.

ANSWER: Are the lights on even with the key off? When the key is on does the transmission indicator in the dash always say it is in reverse? It sounds like the transmission range switch could be bad.

QUESTION: When the key is off all the lights go off. When the car is running, the shift indicator light on the dashboard operates correctly; D when in drive, R when in reverse, P when in Park, etc. Thank you.

Answer
I'd say it is the transmission range switch. If I am reading the diagram correctly the relay can't get power to it unless the switch is bad(or in reverse)so even if the relay sticks I don't think the lights would come on. I'd replace the switch. If it has not been done before it would likely fail in another way causing the car to not start or the ck gearbox light to come on. SOrry it took so long to get back to you.
