Motorcycle Repair: Lower Triple/Underbracket Bearing removal, tapered roller bearings, yamaha ty

Question
Hi,
1985 Yamaha TY 350. How do I get the lower bearing/race off of the lower tripleclamp/underbracket? I tried gently tapping w/hammer and flathead. It seems that the bearing and race are one piece? Thanks for your help.-Kent

Answer
Kent,

-it has two tapered roller bearings.
-the bearings are just tight on the
steering stem/triple clamp.
-The bearing has to be driven off
with a small chisel. Tap on one
side then the other until it
starts lifting.
-if the race came out with the bearing
maybe it was loose.
-if you have races in the frame
use a long punch or small chisel
to catch the edge of the race
to drive it out.
