Motorcycle Repair: 05 softail fxst, wiseco pistons, hp gain

hi, i have been pondering the idea of taking my o5 softail from 88ci to 95 ci.i have already had stage 1 done to the bike but want moore power,i have down some research on this and now that the 95ci is a bolt on kit complete with barrels and pistons,whether its s&s or screamin eagle,but there is a couple of thoughts that ive been pondering on though, 1.buy the barrels only and get wiseco pistons.2or have my stock barrels bored .030 over and run the .030 wiseco pistons. and yes i plan on running 10.5 compression.no my ? is would i be better of by puting on a 95ci kit or would a over bore on stock barrels make the same hp gain? hey i bet your wondering why i mentend wiseco pistons? well in my opion and past experiance with them (30 years) that they are the best pistons made.

Hi Ken,

I have to agree on your thoughs about Wiesco, great, accurate product. In any event, My thoughts on the big bore kit would be this: When you buy the kit, the pistons are measured and the cylinders are boared to match...THOSE EXACT PISTONS. Now, lets say you go to a machine shop, and happen to get the inexperienced Machinist who knows no better, and they dont match....
On the other foot, you do go and buy the kit as complete, Hypothetically speaking you crack a cylinder so the bike sits.....You still have the COMPLETE OEM kit 88ci to put it back together so at least your on the road! If you've got the cash, id spend it just for the piece of mind alone to know everything youre getting is matched up to itself and GOING to fit like its meant to..
