Motorcycle Repair: TIMING, yamaha grizzly 600, punch mark

Question
I AM REBUILDING MY 1999 YAMAHA GRIZZLY 600,I WAS TRYING TO FIND OUT HOW TO SET THE TIMING. THANKS

Answer
Tony,

is it the valve timing you are looking for?
If so align the "I" mark on your rotor
with the mark on the crankcase to get
your piston at "TDC"

Slip the cam in with the lobes approx downward position.
Loosely install the sprocket and chain.

If you have a decompressor, you will
have to fit the notches on the projections.

When the "I" mark is aligned, and all is well the sprocket
will have 3 small holes showing on the edges.

One will be at the top aligned with the cylinder
head angle, the others will line up
with the head surface on each side.

The decompressor spring lever will
have a punch mark, it will be in line
with the top mark on the sprocket.

If it all looks good you can install
the cam bolts and tighten to 14 ft lbs.

Hope thats what you needed?
