Motorcycle Repair: Honda Hornet 600 problem, honda hornet cb600f, honda hornet 600

Question
Hi Wayne,
I would be very grateful if you could help me with something. I recently bought a Honda Hornet CB600F year 2000 and it's doing something very odd. The bike always starts immediately even when very cold but i can be driving along and everything is going fine and then all of a sudden it feels like it has run out of fuel - the engine doesn't fire any more and i basically coast to a halt. If i try starting the bike straight away again it won't start but i've learned that if i leave it about 10 minutes or so and then attempt to start it, it will start immediately! Could this be trapped air in the fuel line or something like that?? I really don't know. Any ideas?!? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
David,
most likely one these in this order:

the side stand switch is faulty or corroded.(most likely)
the fuel tank vent line is plugged.
loose connector on fuse or ignition component.
kinked fuel line
bad fuel filter or pump.

Try checking for spark when it quits to
eliminate the electrical or ignition system.
If the spark looks okay, you know it
is likely a fuel problem.
