Motorcycle Repair: same problem, starter solenoid, solenoid starter

Question
QUESTION: Mike, going from my question yesterday about my harley and the buzzing sound, i ended up replacing the starter, and the battery cables (neg. and pos.)... So far i have new spark plugs, starter solenoid, starter, battery cables, starter relay. Heres a brain teaser, the starter relay buzzes when i tried starting it, so i put jumper cables from my vehicle up to the harley, and the starter relay just made a ticking sound everytime i hit the starter switch.

On a side note, my ignition starter key can turn both ways, one way turns the headlight the other way turns it off, basically so you can ride with it on or off... with the jumper cables off, i get almost no power, with the jumper cables on, and i try starting it i get a ticking noise with the headlight off, and a buzzing sound when the headlight is on where the starter relay sits...

ANSWER: When you push the starter button, so you have 12 volts at the small wire on the starter solenoid? On the cold side of the solenoid do you get 12 volts when you press the starter button? When you press the starter button do you get 12 volts at the starter?

QUESTION: okay, the small wire on the starter solenoid (going to the starter relay), when you push the starter button, it constantly flickers through the random numbers, the highest being 11. the cold side gets 0v. and starter is 0v

Answer
From the relay to the starter solenoid you should be getting 12 volts when you push the button. Also, when you push the button the starter solenoid shouold send power to the starter.
Run a test wire from the positive side of the battery to the small post on the starter solenoid. the solenoid should kick in. If not then the solenoid is bad.
Good luck and happy riding
