Motorcycle Repair: 2001 Yamaha Raptor 660R, clutch lever, raptor owners

Question
Hello. I have a 2001 Raptor, and it spits and sputters and back fires, and bogs down. I was wondering what the possibilities could be for this problem. It seems to only occur when I am going at high speeds. Also, when I turn the handle bars to the left it exaggerates this problem, even at idle. After numerous hours of playing around with switches on the clutch handle, I noticed there was a significant improvement when one of those 2 switches wires was pulled towards the handlebars. I zip tied it in place for temporary relief of the problem. Is it possible this is just a rev limiter (if Raptor's have them) or would the problem lie in the CDI. Or could it be the switch on the clutch lever.

Thanks for the help!
Matt

Answer
Hi Matt,

The problem seems to be air-fuel related, but it also appears to be ignition related.

I cannot accurately diagnose the problem without being present and performing a few tests.

Try the forums at "www.atvfrontier.com" You may find other Raptor owners who have experienced the same problem and repair.
