Motorcycle Repair: turn signals., safety sake, signal module

Question
recently purchased 1990 FXRS.rear turn signals had been deleted by previous owner. On my intial ride hm only one front turn signal would light up and only as long as i would hold the turn signal button,(culprit-bad bulb). For safety sake i have installed  aset of aftermarket oem replacement rear turn signals. Now the fun stuff. At this time i have no turn signals working. When i press and hold the turn signal button (no matter what side) I can hear the flasher actuating but no turn signals.Disconnect the newly installed turn signals and I'm back to having the front signals only light up when I push the button,no flashing just light up.as soon as I let go of the switch turn signal light goes out and driving lights opperate normal. To add further complicate things all of the indicator lights have been deleted by simply cutting and stowing the wires.I have a wire diagram for a 91-92 FXRS.I'm lost as to where the turn signal module is and what it looks like.I know that thhis sounds almost impossible to troubleshoot w/o seeing this mess.Any and all help appreciated.

Answer
Hearing a clicking sound tells me that there is no turn signal modual. They dont make a clicking sound. I would suspect that you just have a flasher.
First thing I would do is locate the wire going to the rear turn signals. Push the turn signal button and with a test light, check to see if you have power going to it. Do this to both sides. If no power, then you are going to have to trace the wires to find the break.
Good luck and happy riding
