Motorcycle Repair: Regretful Baffle Drilling, stock pipes, mid power

Question
Mike,
I took my 2005 FXDLI in for 1k maint. and wanted new grips. Asked the tech about a little more noise. Recomended a SE A/C kit and to have the baffles drilled. Picked up the bike and it is way to loud and feels like I have lost low-mid power. Mad at myself for doing this to the bike. Would have been plenty happy with just the new grips! What would you recomend:go back to stock pipes or look at the Screaming Eagle or other OEM pipes?

Answer
It depends on what you are looking for in sound. The best thing to do is check other harleys for sound and ask the rider what he is running. Then you will get the sound you are looking for. You can go with screaming eagle, but generally the aftermarket mufflers cost less.
The reason you lost low-mid power is when you change the exhaust and put a high flow air filter on you lean the bike out. The tech should have told you that before he did the work. So once you get the mufflers youo want you will have to richen it back up to get it running right.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
