Motorcycle Repair: 1996 kaw.Vulcan A2, thin rod, special tools

Question
I am changing the bearings in the wheels.
What is the best way to remove old ones?
Is there a special tool or what?
I am new to this stuff.
Thankyou

Answer
Hi Michael,

Get a copy of the service manual. The manual has illustrated procedures for changing bearings, and much more. It'll be the best $25 spent on your Vulcan. The manual will pay for itself with the first repair you perform.

Visit the following websites:

There's special tools for bearing installation and removal, but they are not always necessary. Most bearing can be tapped out with a thin rod.

Use a socket on the outter race and tap the new bearings into their seats. Some guys use a piece of wood instead of the socket.

I return tech files by email. There was no email with your question as requested.
