Motorcycle Repair: Firing order, spark plug wires, yamaha fz 750

Question
Hey Wayne, I just bought an 85 Yamaha FZ 750 and the spark plug wires were pulled from the heads... Could you please tell me the firing order of this engine while sitting on it? I have looked for the info but can find it.

Thanks
Mike

Answer
Mike,

most motorcycles use a waste spark system
which means that the coil fires two
plugs even though only one is on the
compression or firing stroke.

-sitting on the bike, the
left coil wires are on cylinders 1/4.
right coil wires are on 2/3.
Doesn't matter which wire you use from the coil.
Just do as above.

This basically fires like this, left coil then
right coil then left coil again.
It will amount to the same as an engine
with a distributor firing order of 1342 I believe.
-Some bikes fire 1243 but the coil wiring is the
same as above with a wasted spark system.
