Motorcycle Repair: Which direction to loosen oil drain plug, 1971 honda cb350, oil drain plug

Question
I am trying to loosen the oil drain plug on my 1971 Honda CB350 motorcycle.  It has been sitting in my garage for 16 years and trying to get it back and running.  The drain plug is pretty tight and I just wanted to know if I should turn counterclockwise (which I think) or clockwise.  I just hate to strip the drain oil plug.  Your advise is greatly appreciated.

Answer
Sam, it is still "righty tighty," "lefty loosey" for 350s.

Counterclockwise is the correct direction, but the drain plugs for 350 and 450s are often overtightened and you have to put a big breaker bar and 6pt socket on the drain bolt to get them loose. And you may have to whack it with a mallet to get it to free up~!

Good luck..  Bill Silver
