Motorcycle Repair: 16 tooth sprocket, wheel alingment, tooth sprocket

Question
Hi, I have an '02 Suzuki Marauder. I replaced the stock 15 tooth sprocket with a 16 tooth sprocket for lower rpm's on the highway. Since the change I noticed a a whine coming from the rear end or transmission. Is this normal due to the extra tooth in the sprocket or is something getting ready to break? The chain has the right tension, it has been cleaned and oiled, I gave it an oil change and filter, the tires have the right air pressure. The bike shifts good and runs great. Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Tony,

The noise may have always been there and you may be hearing the sound now due to less engine noise.

Check rear wheel alingment and rear wheel bearing condition.

Rotate rear wheel by hand and investigate the sound. The sound may or may not be produced at low rpm. You may be able to feel a problem as the wheel rotates.
