Motorcycle Repair: Kawasiki fuel petcock, phenolic spacer, nylon spacer

Question
I'm rebuilding the fuel petcock on my 1985 KZ440, and the repair kit I bought doesn't include the nylon spacer that goes between the vacuum diaphrams.  How can I remove the old spacer and disassemble the new vacuum valve to install the spacer?

Answer
Hi Bill, Look carefully at the phenolic spacer. You will notice the old rubber diaphrams are stuck to it by the locating pins and the center plunger.  just peel off the old diaphrams, note what direction the spacer weep out groove was positioned on the petcock. I have seen some facing forwards and some facing rearwards. Take the new diaphrams apart by working one over the center piece carefully..so they dont rip, then reassemble them with the spacer inbetween..I have only done one before and It was tedious but I managed to not tear the thing (phew), thank you for asking
