Motorcycle Repair: engine, yamaha xs650, charging system

Question
1983 yamaha xs650 heritage special.  I can get the bike started and let run for an hour.  but while riding 8 blocks from my house when slowing down to stop it kills and will not restart.  would the battery being weak cause it to kill?
I'm a newbie to repair and maintaining a bike. I cleaned plugs & ck'd gap, ok.
adjusted idle to 1100 rpm after warm..do not know what else to do.
Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hi Frank,

There's not much to go on, but I suspect the carburetors need attention. Check for air intake restrictions (obstructions).

The battery is not to blame for the stalling. The charging system begins to charge the battery above 3k-5k rpm. It would stall at idle, too.

Has the MC been stored awhile? If so, the carbs may need cleaned and synchronized before the engine runs properly.
