Motorcycle Repair: suzuki dr650 starter noise, suzuki dr650, grating noise

hi, i have recently brought a 1992 suzuki dr650 rse,it has grating noise on starting and switching off! which at some point someone has tried to stop with grease (which didnt work)is there some kind of clutch that could have failed  mileage is 30k so theres a good chance of wear!

I cannot tell from the description what may be the source of the noise. There's no electric starter or starter motor clutch. I have to be there to hear and diagnose the problem. I recommend searching for websites dedicated to the DR650 that have forums. Also, consider having the local shop inspect the sounds.
