Nissan Repair: Broken fuel line

Question
I have a 97 nissan maxima that has a gas leak, right above the back driver side tire, right behind where I put gas in, I had a friend look at it and found out where it is leaking from. The previous owners must have tried to fix it because there is a "diet mountain dew can" in place of the fuel line, so my question is. Does anyone know how much it will cost to get this issue fixed and where would be a cheap but get the job done right the first time, shop to take it to?

Answer
Hi Angelica -

I am assuming the filler neck hose is the one with the can repair?

If so, the proper way to fix it is to drop the fuel tank (may not have to totally remove it) to access the hose to replace it.

Most repair shops can do it, however the hose may be a dealer only item, so the cost may be jacked up. You may want to search for the part on line to get an idea of what it should cost.

Since the car is almost 10 years old, might be a good idea to replace all the fuel lines at the top of the tank while the tank is out. There are about 3 or 4 lines.

Please find a reputable mechanic. If you want you can get a quote and let me know what it is. I can tell you if it is a fair price or not.

Hope this helps -
