Nissan Repair: 1991 240sx transmission problems, shift linkage, ka24de

Question
Having issues with my car and was wondering if you could offer some help:

Car is a 1991 hatch, Ka24de with 112,000 km on engine and transmission

never had any problems - but recently upgraded brakes to s14 front and back and swapped rims for 18x8.5 in the front and 18x10.5 in the rear.

Car drove fine for a month but then car got stuck in first gear and refused to shift.

When starting symptoms are as follows:

cannot shift out of park unless shift lock is manually deployed
OD light does not light up at all
when in drive car does not shift gears

Any help would be great and highly appreciated; thanks in advance

Answer
Anil,

Here is the procedure to check the transmission.  But, it sounds like you have several problems.  First, the shift linkage should be looked at to make sure it is correct.  Next, make sure the brake pedal switch is adjusted correctly to allow the car to shift out of park.  Then, check the codes...
