Nissan Repair: 1998 Nissan Altima GLE

Question
Hello, I have a 98 Nissan Altima. Lately, The engine has been sputtering, Very Low idle, and actually cuts off from time to time. I changed the spark plugs, wires, and distributor a few months back and was doing just fine until a few weeks ago.

Few things I noticed: only starts sputtering when engine is warmed up. Never when cold.

:The longer I drive, the more frequent it happens.

:Fuel injector Cleaner does little or nothing when poured in the gas tank. Same with Carb cleaner.

: lights dim when engine sputters [ or] backfires.

: occurs mostly at low gears [ Idle - Drive ]

I honestly have no clue whats going on. If I can get some advice it would be most appreciated. Thank You.

Have a good day. :)

Answer
Hi Ronald -

You said you have replaced the distributor. Was it replaced with a OEM brand new one?

Also, have you checked the fuel pump for proper PSI and volume?
For PSI you will need a pressure gauge. To check volume remove the fuel line and insert end into a graduated container. Turn ignition on, and you should have at least one cup of fuel in 3 seconds.

Hope this helps -
