Nissan Repair: 2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8l wont start, nissan sentra, metal surfaces

Question
The car won't start.  Checked the battery, oil, coolant, and other basic stuff.  Doing some online research I think it may be an issue with the starter, spark plugs, or maybe even possibly the catalytic converter (A lot of people say there's an issue with them on this year Nissan).  Video shows what happens when you try to start the car, I need help.

Answer
Hi Philip -

From the sound of it, looks like the timing belt.

First, check the spark. Remove one of the coil/spark plug boot, insert a screwdriver til it wedges against the terminal inside. Hold the screwdriver shaft about 1/4" away from any metal surface. Have a helper try to start the engine. if there is no spark jumping between the metal surfaces, check the timing belt.

Best way to do this is to remove the timing cover bolts just enough so you can see the belt or cam sprocket. Crank the engine again. If the above is not turning, then the belt needs replacing.

Let me know. If the belt is not broken, then we can go to the next step

Hope this helps -
