Nissan Repair: a/c, nissan sentra, 3 legs

Question
QUESTION: My question is- the a/c relay located under the hood..there is a red,an org,a yellow/blu stripe and a yellow/blk stripe that goes to it. 3 legs show 12 volts but the yel/blk stripe doesn't show anything which is the one that goes to the a/c compressor. Can you tell me what to look for and where it is to make the relay energize this wire to compressor ?

ANSWER: Hi Ronnie -

I did not get the year make and model of your vehicle - However, if that wire you are questioning goes to the compressor, I do believe that is the relay. The wire should be energized with the engine running and the A/C switch on. Check it that way. If it is not, then replace the relay after checking connections and wire integrity. If it is energized and the compressor still does not run, then  it is probably the compressor.

Hope this helps -

QUESTION: i have a 1993 nissan sentra e 1.6  i've bought a new relay and compressor..i found the 4 wires going to the relay were burnt and replaced them also. i jump the connection at the relay and the compressor kicks on but does not cycle.can the hi/low pressure switch be the culprit or something else that does not let the relay energize the compressor

ANSWER: Hi Ronnie -

Yes, it could be the switch. However the pressure switch also acts as a safety device that protects the system if the pressure is too low or high. Changing the comnpressor, did you properly evacuate the system, replace the orifice filter, accumulator, receiver drier?
Then recharging the system to pressure specs?

Just want to make sure before we go on.

QUESTION: sure did calvin..changed all that.. the compressor was evacuated and recharged to spec...i'm also having a hard time finding the hi/lo switch..any suggestions on that matter? Also i heard that the rec/drier could be self sealing..do you know if it is because when i do change the switch i was wondering if the pressure would haveta be let out b4 i change it

Answer
Hi Ronnie -

The pressure switch is on the high side of the system. I am not sure exactly where on the Sentra, but if you follow the lines it should be there. It is hard with the car not in front of me. I apologize. On some of the later models, the system need not be evacuated for the replacement of the switch, but I think your model does.
