Nissan Repair: Alternator smells burnt, electrical inspection, max output

Question
A strange burning smell is coming from my alternator. It heats up as soon as I start the car.The battery is brand new as well, recently changed it.What do you think it is?

Answer
David,

It could be that the bearings are dry and causing the overheating smell.  Also, it could be that the alternator's voltage regulator is blown and the alternator is running max output and cooking itself.  Autozone or Checker will perform a free electrical inspection and let you know if it is overcharging or if there are other issues.
