RV Repair: truck camper water pump, air leaks, happy camping

Question
Our 7amp shurflo water pump runs and runs, no water.  It actually runs faster than normal, with no water on the discharge side of pump.  Another problem is that the pump is located directly over the converter, so we can't check the intake side because we're afraid we'll damage the converter.  Is there a way to check the pump?  We can't find anywhere with a possible air leak, but hate to buy a new pump if that's not the problem.  One other note; we did find a small piece of something in the line while taking the pump loose, so we wonder if trash in the line could be the culprit.

Answer
Joan,
If there is a piece of trash in the pump head it will usually keep it from working.  To test the pump I would drain the freshwater tank and remove the pump from the RV.  Hook a hose to it and drop it in a bucket of water.  Then just hook up 12 volts to it and see if it pumps.  As long as there are no air leaks in your hose it will pump it's good.  I hoe this helps, good luck and happy camping.
