Nissan Repair: problems with 2001 xterra, vacuum lines, manual car

the problem i have with my xterra is that sometimes when I stop at a traffic light or stop sign the rpm gauge starts dropping until the vehicle dies. It's just like when you stop a manual car on gear.  This goes on for a couple of minutes then it runs normal for a couple of days before it does it again.  What can the problem be?

Is your Check Engine Light on?
When was your last tune up?

This also could be the idle speed solenoid failing.

Also check all vacuum lines, electrical connections to the intake boot and manifold.
