Nissan Repair: many Qs, fuel pressure regulator, haynes book

Question
1. On the starter which bolt is the positive one, is it the one with the black plastic on it?

2. Alternator, how close does the alternator get to the block of the engine. i replaced engines and now when i bolted it down the heat shield doesnt fit, it keeps runnin into the alternator.

3. (Picture) Like i said i replaced engines from a 98 200sx 1.6L to a 96 200sx 1.6L same model etc. but wat im pointing at there is no tube for this hole and its the only one that doesnt have anything to connect too. im i screwed, wat does it do, and is there a way i can splice it and put it into another tub or plug it?

4. (Picture) these fuel lines are so confusing is there any diagram u know of. the Haynes book doesnt have anything that helps.

Answer
Scott,

The starter has one big bolt and that is where the positive cable connects.  The small one is the one that activates the solenoid and starter.  The large post is dormant until power is applied to the small terminal.

The alternator is an issue since I do not know what heat shield you are discussing.  No picture came up.  Send me a photograph and we'll go from there.

The tube or hole as you say is a mystery to me since there is no picture.  Send one and we'll look at that too.  I like to swap parts from the old engine to the new one until everything lines up like connectors and hoses.  What is on the old block and could it transfer to the new one.  If the connection on the new one is extra and it was not on the old one means you could leave it.

There are two fuel lines.  A pressure line and a return line.  The pressure line goes on the side of the fuel rail where there is no fuel pressure regulator and the return goes on where the fuel pressure regulator is.  That is the thing that looks like a small can and it has a vacuum line coming out of it.
