Nissan Repair: P1126 p304 p140 P1320, crank angle sensor, mass air flow sensor

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2000 infiniti i30 with the service engine soon light on with failed throttle control motor relay and open circuit condition. At low speed I have high pitch whine. Could this be the cause and what needs to be replaced.

ANSWER: Ashley,

The code says P1126, for 2000 is a thermostat issue.  Probably stuck open.  I do not think you have a throttle motor on a 2000 i30.  If you do there will be no throttle cable.  Email me and let me know before you order a part.  You can purchase one of these and you should be fine.  rockauto.com or courtesyparts.com are good sources as is autopartswarehouse.com  Find the least expensive and order it.  Now, it is just a matter of replacement.  Again, email me back and let me know.

QUESTION: Ok maybe the thermostat does explain why the heater doesn't get hot... But this high pitch whine that produces at low speed then disappears at 40-60 mph... Could it be that the mass air flow sensor is dirty.

Answer
Ashley,

The high pitch noise is probably a worn accessory drive belt.  The mass airflow sensor is of the hotwire design that measures the air passing by heating a wire and as the air cools it the computer keeps it at a certain temperature.  Sort of an iterative process as the air goes by the wire is continually heated and the computer figures out how much air the engine uses by how much it has to work to heat the wire.  So, it would not make any noise.  A high pitch noise could be a belt.  Check them out and email me back.

P304 is number 4 cylinder misfiring.  I would say the coil on that cylinder is defective.

P140 is the oxygen sensor, bank 1 rear, that needs to be replaced.

P1320 is the primary ignition signal that needs to be replaced.  That one is the crank angle sensor.

P1126 is probably the thermostat we discussed.
