Nissan Repair: 1993 Nissan Pathfinder SE 4x4 3.0L V6, nissan pathfinder, haynes manual

Question
Von,
Can the fuel pump be replaced on this vehicle without the removal of the fuel tank?
My Nissan PF has 193K and this is the first time I've had to consider this repair. I recent have noticed a temporary loss of power at 2500rpm (65 mph) and some "bucking" as if the fuel flow is being disrupted. Listening to the tank last evening, I heard the pump occasionally change it's pitch and heard some loud vibrations. Thank you in advance. I value your opinion !!!!!

Answer
Carl,

There should be an access plate under the back seat, above the fuel tank.  Get a Haynes Manual for a diagram and instructions on how to do the replacement.  Remember, disconnect the battery first, have someone with a fire extinguisher working as a safety person.  No drop lights or other things that can cause a spark.  And, if you can do it outside with plenty of fresh air is a plus.  Lots of rags that are throw aways and leave them out in the sun until they dry before you throw them away.  Be sure to get a new o-ring for the fuel pump seal to the tank.  The old one expands after it is removed and makes it quite difficult to reinstall.
