Nissan Repair: 2000 nissan altima gxe, heater not blowing hot air, nissan altima gxe, automatic climate control

My car is not blowing hot air, and really hasn't since I bought it a year ago, It sounds like I need to check the blend door, thermostat, I looked under the dash and could only find a black plastic box (should that be removed?) and are their any hoses I need to feel to find out if the hoses need to be purged? is that how I check the thermostat?

Automatic climate control?  If this is the case check the control panel as this is the most common problem.  Second, if you want to see if the door is actuating, from hot to cold, remove the glove box and watch the actuator as you run it from hot to cold.  If the actuator does not move, there are three of them.  One opens to allow outside air entry.  One is the blend door, from hot to cold.  The last is the floor, vent defrost actuator.  Adjust the control panel and you will soon figure out which each is.
