Nissan Repair: Belts, grit sandpaper, nissan pathfinder

I got a 1998 nissan pathfinder the alt belt was squaking so i
put belt dressing on it and it squaked even more so i spayed
water on it and it stopped for about 6secs whats the problem
and how can i fix it?

Replace the belt with a new one.  If that does not do the trick use 400 grit sandpaper and scuff up the pulley surfaces.  Remember that the surfaces have been work hardned for ten years and they are slick.  Also, you need to check to see if the alternator is binding and if the vehicle us pulling max voltage and causing the alternator to work at maximum when you have the noise.  Could be a battery going down or another load like bad cables.
