Nissan Repair: 2002 supercharged frontier, service engine soon light, power steering

Question
I recently bought a 2002 spercharged V6 frontier.  The steering seems to get very stubborn when I make hard turns going forward and in reverse.  What could cause this?  Also, my "service engine soon" light just came on at 60,000 miles.  Is that typical for a check up time, or does this sound like other work may be needed?  Also, what would you estimate the costs on these to be, give or take?

Answer
Andy,

Check to see that the power steering belt is not broken first.  Second, the pump could be low on fluid or the pump could be blown.  If the vehicle is hard to turn these are the conditions that could cause it.  A rebuilt pump is going to run $100 bucks and another $100 bucks for labor.
