Nissan Repair: Brake lights, brake light switch, trailer harness

Question
Hi Von -

This is Calvin, your fellow Nissan expert. I guess not so much an expert now, as I wanted to ask your opinion.

2003 Altima. Brake light always stays on. I have replaced the rubber grommet, checked the brake light switch. I even removed the brake switch connection and the light still remains on, so I know it is not the switch. Someone told me that it was the cruise control switch, I disconnected that, and same deal.

The 3rd brake light bulb is also burned out. I am in the process of replacing that, could that light (being burned out) be the cause of the problem, I was thinking maybe it is wired that way to alert the driver? Kind of reaching for that one though, LOL.

Would appreciate your thoughts on this -

Answer
Calvin,

If it is not the brake light switch then the master headlight switch is the only other place all the wires tie together.  That is, unless you have a trailer harness shorting in the back of the car.  I would replace the third brake light but that should have nothing to do with the problem.  Email me back and let me know how it goes.
