Nissan Repair: 1990 nissan pickup, nissan pickup, clutch pedal

my 4 x 4 nissan pickup has a loud noise when in gear.  It started when I used 3rd gear and sounds metal on metal and stops when you put clutch pedal in.  I was forced to keep driving it and now it has gotten louder and is more in the other gears.  I need to take it in but what does this sound like and what price frame are we talking?  Thanks

Sounds like the bearings on 3rd gear went and now they hvae contaminated the transmission fluid and other bearings will be soon to follow.  A rebuilt transmission is probably the solution unless you can find a used one with low miles at a wrecking yard.  The latter is much less expensive.  $1200 to $1500 bucks for a rebuild plus removal and install or around $600 bucks for a used one plus removal and install.
