Towing Issues: Requiements for vehical pickup from tow yard, tow yard, storage fees

Question
My car was towed for lack of current registration. What documents will be needed for pickup from the tow yard

Answer
while the requirements may be simple, there are lots of variables..

First off, each City or State would have requirements on what is needed, as lets say that you were towed in Dallas Texas for example (you did not tell me were so I picked a City)

You would need your ID = Drivers License, which would have to be current and valid...

Then you would have to have proof of insurance for the vehicle, which is current and up to date. Yes a lot of police departments check on this issue...

Next you would need, either a valid - current temporary registration or you would need a valid and current registration for the vehicle which means a trip to DMV and pay the fees and any penalties.

Then you might (Depending on what the City laws say) have to go the the police department and obtain a release form on the vehicle which in some places costs anywhere from $ 10.00 to over $ 500.00.

Once all that is done then you will have to go to the tow company and pay all the towing and storage fees which are owed....

At that point you should be able to drive home.

Any of them not done correctly or are not valid then you will not get the vehicle..

BUT BEST ADVISE I CAN GIVE  YOU RIGHT NOW, is to call the police department which stopped you and had the vehicle towed, and ask them. Then call the tow company who towed it and ask then what and how much is needed...

THAT WAY YOU GET THE CORRECT ANSWERS FOR YOUR PROBLEM, instead of me listing some "GENERAL RULES"
