Nissan Repair: 1995 Nissan Altima, nissan altima, distributor cap

Question
So my friend told me his fuel pump was out on his 95 Altima and asked me to put the new one in for him.  The car would start, run very rough, and stall within a few seconds.  I had him show me and this is exactly what happened.  I told him i doubted it was the pump because it wouldn't start at all, but he had already bought the pump off ebay so i agreed to put it in for him and see what happened.  Of course the car still has the same problem, and we cant figure out what it is.  The air filter is new, and the car is getting spark.  I told him it has to be a bad sensor, maybe mass airflow or something.  what do you think.  the car has always ran rough for him, but it just started dying like this one him.

Answer
Hi Matthew -

This one requires step by step diagnosis. First of all, remove the spark plugs and check the condition of the electrode. If it is jet black, then you have a flooding problem (fuel).

I would also check the distributor cap and rotor, and also for vaccuum leaks. Best way to check for vaccuum leaks is to start the engine and spray carb cleaner around the intake manifold area where hoses are and see if the idle improves. Once you spray a location and idle improves, you have found the leak.

Try this, and get back to me please -

Hope this helps -
