Nissan Repair: 1997 Maxima, starter relay, battery cable

Question
We have changed the starter 4 times in the last 2 years and this last episode has the car very unreliable on a short trip....we need to jump start it ...alot. We have had the battery load tested at autozone and this one has us stumped. We are showing that the alternator is indeed charging the battery but when we turn the car off there is nor enough power to make the starter engage the flywheel and turn the engine over. On the last replacement we had the key out of the switch and the starter burned itself out??   Help!! this is the first issue in 150000 miles.

Answer
Nick,

I would say that you have something draining the battery.  So, you will need to figure out what is draining the battery.  If the starter burnt itself out the starter relay would most likely be stuck closed and needs to be replaced.  Check the master fuses at the positive battery cable to make sure they are good since that would cause the battery not to charge even if the alternator is putting out.
