Nissan Repair: nissan pulsar/sunny/sentra, nissan sunny gti, cv driveshaft

Question
HI.
I have a UK Nissan Sunny GTI. Sunny is known as Sentra in the US and as Pulsar in Australia. I have a 2.0litre Nissan n14 chassis- 1993- sr20de engine with the F32a 5 speed manual gearbox, front wheel drive.

I am changing the front drive shafts. I managed to remove the right hand side drive shaft (with the support bracket) now i want to remove the left hand side. I have freed the cv joint wheel side but i am unable to pry off the drive shaft from the transaxel (gearbox). It seems to be stuck! Am I missing something or do i just need brut strength to pry it off?

thanks ever so much for your help.

Domenico

Answer
Domenico,

The driveshaft will come out with a little prying on the CV driveshaft, at the transmission.  I like to use a thin block of wood and an actual pry bar to get a good angle and not hurt the seal.  But, doing it this way will get it out.  There is a circular clip of wire that holds it in place on a groove at the end of the shaft.  This is how it holds inside the transmission.  It is more of the angle than strength.
