Nissan Repair: 1995 Patherfinder 2WD, wont move, shift fork

Question
QUESTION: Problems with truck not moving at all and other times it will go forward and reverse. Could it be eletrical problem with a relay or module? Need help

ANSWER: Al,

When you say it will not go forward or reverse I will assume it is an automatic?  If so, and it is 4X4 drive it could be stuck in two gears at once if the valve body is damaged.  If a manual, and a shift fork is messed up it could be stuck in two gears too.  Another cause would be the front pump loosing pressure and that would not allow the vehicle to move at all.  Lastly, could the brakes be locked up?  Email me back with more information and we'll narrow it down.

QUESTION: My pathfinder is a 1995 2WD automatic. Most of the time after I start it up it won’t move at all, forward (in drive) or reverse. A day later I start it and it will move forward (in drive) and reverse. Most of the time it won’t move at all in any gear and I put a new transmission in 2 years ago.

Answer
Al,

OK, an automatic.  Is the overdrive light flashing on the shifter?  If so, then you have a transmission problem that is electrically defective.  If the truck will not move at startup then I would say the front pump is defective or the transmission might be sucking air.  Cottman is a good source for getting it checked out.
