Nissan Repair: Starter problems 87 pickup, nissan pickup, starter problems

I have a 87 Nissan Pickup.  I have replaced the starter 3x, I have switched out the battery. Still every time I try to start it I get a single click with every turn of the key.  I can pop start it but I cant keep parking on hills.  What could be the problem and the solution.  Thanks

If the starter is not working have you had it tested?  If the starter is good then you are looking at the starter interlock or the ignition itself.  If you have a clutch like it sounds look under the dash and you will find a switch on the clutch that closes when the pedal is pushed.  Wire around it and see if it will start.  If not then it would be the ignition.
