Nissan Repair: Nissan Sentra - SE 2001, nissan sentra, black carbon

Question
Sentra has 90,000 KM.

Is consuming engine oil.

No apparent leaks.

No blue smoke from exhaust. Cabon build up in tail pipe.

How should I proceed.

Answer
Jim,

The black carbon in the exhaust pipe is normal.  The process of a fuel injected engine will leave black byproducts in the tailpipe.  If you really do not like it you could clean it out with some carburetor cleaner and a Scotchbrite pad.  It will come back so it is just to your taste if you do not like a dirty inner tail pipe.  I clean both the Maxima and 350Z I have but it comes back.  I do not worry about the Stanza.
