Nissan Repair: 1995 G20 Code P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor, phillips screw, cam sensor

Question
Thanks for your prompt response. When we pulled the rotor and cover off, the rotor cam appeared to be clean from oil. Do you suggest us to change the distributor anyway?

Answer
Faysal,

If the cover under the rotor post was removed.  The center of the rotor post.  The thing that the rotor plugs on has a phillips screw that holds it on and under that is a cover that is metal and two screws hold that on.  If you too all of this off and there was no oil on the optics then you need to look for a cam sensor that is on the head by the timing cover.  It comes off with a ten millimeter bolt and is basically a sensor that detects the cams position via a magnet that is embedded in the cam pulley.  So, go to Infiniti or your local parts store and ask for the part and match it up with the one you will replace.  And, I would not replace the distributor.
