Nissan Repair: 93 Sentra suddenly died, timing chain, fuel injectors

Question
My 93 Sentra has a new engine with 35,000. It was running great. After being parked for 4 hours it just wont turn over. It tries and has all battery power and starter ect. . but wont “catch” The mechanic says the timing chain broke while sitting in the parking lot. Another mechanic says its the sensor for the fuel injectors. The only thing i have done differently was buy gas from a place I had never been before. I tried starting it for ½ an hour and it didn't stop trying to turn over—it just never made it. Any ideas what it could be?

Answer
Sara,

I could not tell from what you have said.  If the timing chain jumped timing the engine would sound much different when you try to start it.  The second thing is if you crank it and it sounds the same you might have a bad sensor that tells the injectors when to fire.  But, for me you probably have a bad fuel pump or coil.  If it cranks and will not fire then you either have no fuel or no spark.  To verify the timing chain is not the problem have the mechanic check the compression first.  Do not let anyone tear the engine down until you see that the compression is gone.  If the compression is good it is either the ignition or the fuel pump.
