Nissan Repair: engine light, magnetic pickup tool, nissan maxima

i own a 1999 nissan maxima i was driving down the highway when the engine light came on it started flashing evreytime i went faster than 70 mph about an hour later the car started sputtering all the way back to my home it countinuously sputter evreytime i start the vehicle now the engine light is still on i had the vehicle tested with a friend at an auto parts store i lost the recipt but i know one of the problems said cyinder 2 misfire i was wondering what was the problem with my vehicle and how much will it cost thanks alan mccomas

The ignition coils are going out and that is where the code is coming from.  Replace the coils.  If you order them from Nissan they will run about $400 out the door and all you need to do is remove the cover on the front valvecover and three of the coils are under there and there are three on the back.  It takes a ten millimeter socket to remove the single bolt on each coil to remove them.  The wire just pops off with a screwdriver and that is all there is to it.  Just get a magnetic pickup tool so you do not loose the bolts when you take them out.  If not the dealer or a shop will charge you about $180 bucks for the labor.
