Nissan Repair: clutch / cv replacement, nissan sentra, cv joints

Question
I have a 1999 5 speed Nissan Sentra with 155+ miles purchased new by me.  All services and maintance has been performed by the dealer where the car was purchased, this is the first time that either of these repairs has been done on the car. The dealer wants $700+ to fix my clutch and 260+ a piece for the Left and right front CV boots, how can I find out if this is the going rate for those repairs and what is the life expectancy for these parts.

Answer
Pam,

The clutch can be replaced at Clutch Masters or the like for about half of what the dealer wants and the CV joints can be both be done for that price.  Dealerships are expensive for heavy line work.  I would recommend and independent garage.  The parts from either place would last about as long as the original ones did.
