Nissan Repair: Infiniti taillight problem, similiar situations, carmax

Question
We have an Infiniti I30, I think it's a 1998 model. We bought it about 3 years ago from Carmax. They replaced the long taillight across the trunk at that  time, since it was bowed out and water was running into the trunk due to that.

Just a week ago, we see that the taillight is again bowed out, and rain gets into the trunklid. We took it to a local body shop, they worked with it a little and it seemed okay, but it's bowing out again. Apparently that light is about $400 to replace.

There is a person that I work with that has the same problem with her I30.

Do I have any options other than to replace the light every 2 or 3 years?

Answer
Randy,

I hate to say it but that is a problem with this year and design.  If it were my car I would fabricate a brace in the back of the light to dissipate the load and reinstall the light.  Otherwise the replacement schedule will continue.  Now, I have had similiar situations where I bought up to or three in the wrecking yard and kept them on a shelf for just such occasions.
