Nissan Repair: Transmission Solenoid 1991 Maxima, nissian maxima, torque converter

Question
My transmission will not go into gear in my 1991 Nissian Maxima. Someone said that it either has a fuse or a solenoid.  Where is it located?

Answer
Angela,

I would not think a fuse or solenoid.  I would first check the fluid to make sure that it is topped off.  To do this you need to check the fluid while the car is on a flat surface and running in park.  If the fluid is burnt and black then it is time for a new transmission.  I would bet the torque converter is blown and if this is the case the transmission is going to need to be rebuilt.  There are a couple of options here.  First is the cheap route getting one from a wrecking yard and the second is a transmission shop to rebuild yours.  I prefer Cottman over AAMCO so the choice is yours.  Email me back and let me know what you find.
