Nissan Repair: 1997 nissan pathfinder starter, nissan pathfinder, steering arm

Question
I have to replace the starter in my 97 pathfinder. How difficult is it to replace myself, and about how much time would it take? Where should i got to get instructions to replace it?

Answer
Arik,

This is an easy one to do.  First disconnect the battery so you do not short anything in the replacement process.  Then jack up and support the vehicle with stands and chock the tires.  You do not want the Pathfinder falling on you.  Then remove the skid plate and the steering arm on that side.  Disconnect the wires going to the starter and remove it.  If memory serves me correctly you will need an extension and a swivel to aid in the removel process.  A quality rebuilt starter for yours is about $180 bucks.  Heck, it is worth the price since the old one lasted this long.  I just did one on a 2000 Maxima and that is what I was charged at the jobber rate.
