Nissan Repair: Re: Battery OK - radio stopped working, nissan 200sx, internal fuse

Question
Hi Von

I have just fitted a new battery to my car (a 1991 Nissan 200SX).  Now I find that the radio does not work.  It (and the retracting ariel) seem to be 'operating' (ie radio lights up) but do not pick up any stations.  Any ideas please?

Many thanks.

PS Would appreciate it if you send a copy of your response to my email address.

Answer
If you changed the battery is the radio one that has the code that has to be entered before it will work again.  Some manufacturers had radios that had codes so if someone stole the radio it would not work unless you had the code.  Other options are that the fuse to the radio is blown if the car was jumped off there is a good chance that the internal fuse is blown and the memory board in the radio would have to be replaced.  But, since you say it stopped working when the battery was changed I would be thinking it needed a security code or the fuse is blown.  There are two circuits that feed the radio.  One is constant power for the memory and the other one is switched for the ignition so the radio will turn off when the key is off.  Another source of power to the radio is that of the instrument lights but that is only for lighting.
